Teacher2Teacher’s goals are straightforward: to provide teachers with much-needed (and infrequently taught) arts integration teaching skills that they can use in their classroom to benefit the students they teach year after year.
This pilot professional development program for elementary school teachers welcomed its first cohort of teacher participants in Summer 2021. Program activities began with monthly virtual workshops, co-designed and co-taught by classroom experts in English Language Arts, Science, and History. Teachers have had access to twice-monthly livestreamed art experiences from the Crocker’s galleries as well as recently updated materials about the Crocker’s collections aligned with the California Teaching Standards. COVID restrictions willing, teacher participants have had the opportunity to apply the theories and methods learned in the first half of the program in the classroom, with guidance from Crocker educators.
The Museum is now evaluating the program and hearing participants’ needs and desires as the program evolves in what seems to be a rebuilding year in many of our schools. We can look forward to finding more ways to aid teachers through the program.
